TO THE CLOCK TOWER: Bingo Bolger-Baggins

Twenty-eight hobbits dead. Shot dead. By some Big People who have taken up firing practice on the innocent from the Hobbiton clock tower. I didn't even know we had a clock tower, until I heard the news about the shooting. I still wonder what a clock is, but this isn't the time for simple curiousities. One of them, Eldarion, has apparently "come to his senses," for what it's worth, and is offering restitution. I'll feel much better about him though when he has left the Shire never to return. He acts as though this was just a misunderstanding, like someone gave him permission to do thisand it just didn't work out--quite unbelievable really. The other culprit, Telperion, is still apparently up there and armed.

Since my attempt to find a way to take her alive seems to have failed, since the ring seems unresponsive to my request, and trying to hold parley with such a killer could just result in the death of more hobbits, I must resort to my other plan.

Under the cover of nightfall, Iorhael and I have carefully approached the tower, poured lighter fluid inside its base and will set it aflame. Elanor agreed to be on hand to dowse the flames before it spreads, once our work is done here. Now to light it and wait to see, lest the killer jumps. If she does, I brought netting to throw over her before she rises--the flames will no doubt give light to anywhere she could fall to. Here's the light . . . and here I toss it, and ah, the flames arise.
