And then last night I walked in on a family crisis between Erchi, his father Imrahil, and his brother Elphir who his father had perilously abused. Despite how stupidly fast I tend to turn to steel when a physical threat is at hand, we were able to get Elphir "safely" out of his father's clutches without further injury to anyone, for which I am very grateful. Adding to the friction, my beloved came into deep conflict with Merry, who is a spiritual son of his, of sorts, and Erchi as well. I just left Erchi and Iorhael in deep discussion and hope they sort through their differences. Hopefully Erchi and I will get time to talk some time later, since the crisis put strain on our friendship as well.
But now I've learned Little Bilbo is badly hurt, so I'm riding out to see him. Merry and I have had our differences in the past, so I hope we don't clash yet again. I'm getting so weary of all the conflict! Having been a political prisoner for those years in Umbar, at times starved, tortured, and left to bleed, you'd think I'd take these little domestic problems in stride, but there's an emotional toll that family relations exact that is of a different order than the most skilled torturer's mechinations.
And I can tell my beloved is shouldering his burdens heavily now and it is a worry to me. If only I had been fit to shoulder more when I was younger, perhaps so many I love wouldn't be wrestling with so much now. Well, enough of that--no time to get melancholy, I have some riding to do if I'm to get to Gamgee Hall and back before nightfall.
